Measuring the Cortical Thickness

چکیده
Besides normal aging, a number of brain diseases are known to reduce the amount of grey matter in the brain. To better understand the nature and progression of these disease processes, quantitative measurements of relevant brain structures, such as the regional cortical thickness, are highly desirable. Starting from high resolution volumetric MR images of the human head, a reliable segmentation procedure for the grey matter compartment is described which allows thickness measurements at sub-voxel resolution. Simulation experiments and comparisons with published data from histological examinations prove the valid-

Measuring the thickness of buccal cortical bone of maxillary premolar teeth by cone beam computed tomography technique
Background and Aims: Immediate implant placement following tooth extraction is a treatment with many advantages. Alveolar bone preservation after immediate implant, need minimum of 2 mm thickness in buccal bone plate. The aim of this study was to evaluate the thickness of buccal cortical bone of maxillary premolars by Cone Beam Computational Tomography (CBCT) technique. Materials and Methods: ...
متن کاملAssessing the Changes of Cortical Thickness in Alzheimer Disease With MRI Using Freesurfer Software
Introduction: In this study, we intend to determine the correlation between the thickness of the cerebral cortex and the severity of the cognitive disorder in Alzheimer disease (AD). Methods: A total of 20 (14 women and 6 men) patients diagnosed with AD with a Mean age of 72.95 years, and 10 (7 women and 3 men) cognitively normal (CN) subjects with a Mean age of 70.50 years were included in th...

متن کاملThe Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative: Consistent 4D Cortical Thickness Measurement for Longitudinal Neuroimaging Study
Accurate and reliable method for measuring the thickness of human cerebral cortex provides powerful tool for diagnosing and studying of a variety of neuro-degenerative and psychiatric disorders. In these studies, capturing the subtle longitudinal changes of cortical thickness during pathological or physiological development is of great importance. For this purpose, in this paper, we propose a 4...
متن کاملMeasuring Cortical Thickness per brain lobe and its Statistical Analysis
Accurate and automated measuring of cortical thickness is a powerful tool for diagnosing and studying neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders [1]. The cerebral cortex is a outermost layer of the cerebrum that controls in memory, perceptual awareness, language, and consciousness. The thickness of human cerebral cortex varies between 1 and 4.5 mm and overall average of approximately 2.5 mm [1...
متن کاملDetermination of Relationships between the Ultrasound Velocity and the Physical Properties of Bovine Cortical Bone Femur
Accurate measurements of physical characteristics of bone are essential for diagnosis, assessment of change following treatment, and therefore, indirectly, for evaluation of new forms of therapy. This is particularly true of osteoporosis and aging skeleton, in which fractures occur easily. Methods: In this study an ultrasonic system was set-up and calibrated on Plexiglas tubes of variable thick...
